Residents are being urged to take a bit of ‘me time’ to discover top tips on keeping fit and healthy which are on offer as part of a well-being partnership event with Redditch Borough Council and Rubicon Leisure.

On Friday (Sept 29) the NHS well-being bus will turning up to the event at the Abbey Stadium and experts on hand include a cancer nurse and tours of the Abbey stadium will be available to show what equipment and classes there are to get residents to be more active.

The Council’s Sports Development Team will also be there to share information about their classes and courses including their ‘live well, be well’ and ‘escape pain’ and Cancer Rehab programmes.

Redditch Borough Council’s Portfolio-holder for Leisure, Cllr Jo Beecham said: “Our priority is for residents to live independent, active and healthy lives and this event showcases what’s on offer for our residents, especially those who are less active.

“I am really proud of the programmes and fitness opportunities we already offer, including walking sports and health walks, and it’s great to team up with Rubicon to show how big the offer across the borough really is.”

Rubicon Leisure runs the Abbey Stadium on behalf of the Council and hosts a Macmillan coffee afternoon each year which they use to demonstrate the health and fitness available there.

This year the Council and Rubicon have joined forces to further promote how they can help support healthier lifestyles for everyone.

Managing Director for Rubicon, Ben Clawson-Chan, said: “The event represents a great opportunity for our residents to come along and see what’s on offer, the facilities available and how Rubicon and the Council supports and promotes a healthier lifestyle.”

As part of the Macmillan Coffee afternoon, hot drinks and cakes will be sold at the event to raise cash for the charity.

Council Leader Matt Dormer said “Since 2018 Rubicon Leisure, a trading company owned by the Council has been responsible for running the Abbey Stadium Sports centre as well as other facilities including the Palace Theatre and Arrow Valley Visitor Centre.

“These are some of the jewels in Redditch’s crown and provide great opportunities for our residents to get out and about.

“I am delighted we have come together in a bid to encourage our communities to move more and to adopt a healthier lifestyle. One small change can make a big difference.”

The event runs from 12:30pm til 2:30pm at the Abbey Stadium, Redditch.
