Redditch Borough Council is excited to unveil their latest initiative in walking sports, alongside Worcestershire Cricket (WC) and Worcestershire Association of Carers.

NEW Walking Cricket sessions will be launching next week, Monday 19 June, at Terry Memorial Fields (former Bridely Moor High School Field).

There will be 12 weeks of free sessions, including all equipment and coaching provided by Worcestershire Cricket, for anyone who wants to come along and give it a try, with sessions running every Monday from 6-7pm.

Councillor Joanne Beecham, portfolio holder for Leisure Services, said: "I am thrilled to support the launch of these new Walking Cricket sessions. Our walking sports programs are always very well received, and I have no doubt that this one will be too.

“This program exemplifies our commitment to promoting active aging and providing inclusive recreational activities for all our residents. Walking Cricket not only offers a unique opportunity to enjoy the sport but also fosters social connections and enhances overall well-being."

Leader of the council, Cllr Matt Dormer, added: “This program is designed to enhance health and well-being within the community and provides a unique and inclusive opportunity for residents to stay active, no matter their fitness level, connect with fellow enthusiasts and enjoy the sport they love.”

Walking Cricket sessions offer a modified version of the traditional game, catering to participants with varying levels of mobility and fitness. Emphasizing gentle exercise, team camaraderie, and the sheer joy of playing cricket, this program creates a relaxed and supportive environment. By incorporating walking and simplified rules, Walking Cricket ensures that everyone, regardless of age or ability, can actively participate and have a great time.

Beyond physical activity, Walking Cricket offers a range of benefits. It promotes social interaction, reduces feelings of isolation, and boosts mental well-being. The sessions are led by qualified instructors who provide guidance and support, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.

Please note, access to the Astro cricket pitch is via Sallie Swan Street (off Bromsgrove Road) past Redditch United Football Club.
