There is another opportunity for a health and well-being check-up as the Council and Rubicon Leisure have booked the NHS well-being bus for a second roadshow following last month’s success.

The bus will bring with it a healthcare professional who will team up with health, well-being and fitness professionals from the Abbey Stadium and Redditch Borough Council during the visits.

Representatives of the Primary Care Network Social Prescribing Team and NHS Talking Therapies long-term conditions Team will also be there.

Last month (Sept), at the Abbey Stadium, a visitor to the roadshow had an underlying heart condition detected and was referred to his GP via the NHS.

Now as part of World Diabetes Day on November 14 the bus will be at Arrow Valley Visitor Centre from 10am to 12pm.

Redditch Borough Council’s Portfolio-holder for Leisure, Cllr Jo Beecham, said: “We had lots of visitors to the event last month and for one person it proved life-saving.

“For others we shared top tips, advice and know-how on how to make changes to our lifestyles which will benefit our health and well-being going forward.

“So I am delighted we have teamed up with Rubicon and the NHS once again to encourage our residents to move more and look after themselves.”

The event provides visitors with the chance to look around Arrow Valley with its wonderful walks and activity trails. This includes a walk round the lake led by the Abbey Stadium’s Obesity and Diabetes Specialist Tracy Morris at 10am.

Managing Director of Rubicon Leisure, which runs many of the borough’s leisure and cultural facilities on behalf of the Council, Ben Clawson-Chan, said: “We hope this roadshow will give people the opportunity to receive a health and well-being check-up and at the same time enjoy what’s on offer at the Arrow Valley Visitor Centre and surrounding park.”

“Adding simple activities, like a walk round the lake or park a few times a week is one of the easiest ways to get more active and improve physical and mental health and well-being.”

Council Leader Matt Dormer added: “Providing opportunities for a healthier lifestyle is Rubicon’s and the Council’s priority and by working together we can make a difference to residents’ life and offer solutions to help them to move more.”
