Redditch Borough Council will be lighting up the Borough this Autumn with a spectacular event, soon to be revealed.

With increasing costs and security issues in mind, Council leaders plan to replace the fireworks display, usually at Arrow Valley Park, with a free week-long Halloween and lights extravaganza for all ages.

Last year the firework event was cancelled due to Covid and officers have spent the last months exploring different options which not only are more cost-effective, but which will be accessible to more people.

Cllr Mike Rouse, whose portfolio covers Leisure, said: “Due to the current layout of the Park, and the ongoing construction works for the new supermarket, we cannot make it a ticketed event at this point in time, which would have helped not only with the costs, but with limiting and managing the amount of people attending the event to ensure it is safe.

“That’s why we have to come up with something else for this year.”

More details of the Autumn Halloween spectacular will be revealed next month.

Council Leader Matt Dormer said: “We have no idea what social restrictions could be in place later on this year so I support this decision from that point of view, but also, after a year of not much happening anywhere, it’s fantastic that we are committed to putting on this week-long extravaganza, rather than a one night wonder.”
