Community Walkabouts

Community Walkabouts (also known as Estate Walkabouts) give residents the opportunity to show the organisations responsible for local services the issues that matter most to them - in person, on the ground, and where they happen.

By bringing together residents, businesses, council services, police, public health teams, and other partners, the walkabouts help identify local concerns, agree practical actions, and ensure everyone is clear about what happens next.

Whether it's a problem that affects your street, communal area, or local neighbourhood, this is your chance to have your voice heard and help shape local priorities.

What happens at a Community Walkabout?

Residents join representatives from the council and other local organisations for a guided walk around their area to highlight issues and discuss possible solutions.

Topics may include issues like:

• Community safety
• Anti-social behaviour
• Grounds maintenance
• Street and communal lighting
• Bin storage and waste issues
• Communal areas
• Environmental concerns
• Other neighbourhood issues raised by residents

The aim is to identify priorities together, agree actions, and make sure the right organisations take responsibility for addressing them.

Currently, we're only advertising the first new Walkabout, in Woodrow, which will be a "pilot" session for the new Walkabouts. Feedback from that Woodrow session will then help shape the approach before it is rolled out to other parts of the borough.

Following each walkabout, partners will review progress against the actions agreed during the session.

Why are we doing this?

Community Walkabouts form part of our work to strengthen tenant and resident engagement and ensure local people have a stronger voice in decisions affecting their communities.

The programme is designed to move conversations out of meeting rooms and into neighbourhoods, helping the organisations providing your local services to see your issues first-hand, listen directly to residents, and work together on practical solutions.
