Fly tipping

Dumping unwanted items is against the law and harms our communities. We spend a lot of time and money clearing up dumped rubbish, which we could be spending on making real improvements instead.

We have recently boosted enforcement activity in the borough. Areas are regularly patrolled, and specialist investigators are working on our behalf.

Report it

Are you reporting a fly tip for removal, or reporting information to help catch a fly tipper?

Before... and after!

Look at what we have to use our time and money clearing up: unwanted items people just dump in the street. We'd rather spend our time making real improvements to your community. Together, we can help fight fly tipping.

Tips and advice

An estimated two thirds of fly tipped waste comes from household work. Could your tradesperson be a secret fly tipper?

If someone takes your waste away and dumps it, YOU could be the one facing enforcement action, unless:

  • You used a registered waste carrier (ask for their waste carrier number and check they are registered) and
  • You have a proper receipt for your waste from them.

Legitimate businesses will always be happy to tell you their waste carrier number and provide a proper receipt.

Doing this helps protects yourself and your community from the illegal dumping of waste.

We all have a legal duty of care to ensure our waste is disposed of correctly. Following this advice can help you prove that you did your duty, and that it wasn’t your fault.

From a few black bags of waste to large furniture, our easy, safe, lawful, local Bulky Waste collection service starts from under £12.

Could your unwanted items find a new home?

If they could be re-used please consider seeing if a local recycling charity such as NewStarts is accepting donations.
