Tenancy Audits

A quick check to help keep your home safe and your tenancy running smoothly.

We carry out regular tenancy audits with all our tenants.

It’s a simple visit that helps us:

  • Make sure your home is safe and in good condition
  • Identify repairs or damp or mould early
  • Understand if you need extra support or help
  • Keep your tenancy up to date and trouble free

We usually aim to do a tenancy audit once every two years. They’re an important part of managing our housing service to you.

Questions and Answers

A tenancy audit is a routine check for all tenants. It helps us to:

  • Confirm the right people are living in the home
  • Check the property is safe and well looked after
  • Make sure we have up to date information so we can provide the right services and support.

Our Neighbourhood & Tenancy Officers will carry out the audit.

We will:

  • Contact you in advance by phone or letter to arrange an appointment
  • Visit your home at the agreed time
  • Check that you are the legal tenant
  • Ask a few questions about you and who lives with you
  • Ask if you have any issues, concerns, or support needs
  • Carry out a brief check of the condition of the property

Most visits are straightforward and don’t take long.

Tenancy audits help to:

  • Keep your home safe and well maintained
  • Spot problems like repairs, damp or mould early
  • Make sure you’re getting the right help and advice, if you need it
  • Tailor our services to your individual needs
  • Ensure social housing is used fairly

They also help us meet national housing standards.

No. Tenancy audits are routine checks, and most do not lead to any further action.

They’re carried out for everyone, not because there’s a concern. In most cases, the audit simply confirms that everything is in order.

If we do identify any issues, we’ll explain what happens next and work with you to resolve them wherever possible.

Please:

  • Be available for your appointment, or let us know if you need to rearrange
  • Have proof of ID available, as we may ask to see it
  • Use the visit as a chance to tell us about any problems with your home or tenancy

Missed appointments cause

wasted journeys and delays for other tenants, so please contact us if you can’t attend.

After the visit, we will:

  • Update our records
  • Follow up on any repairs or actions agreed
  • Contact you if anything further is needed

If no issues are found, no further action is required, and you may not hear from us again until your next audit.

If you have any questions about your tenancy audit, or need support before or after the visit, please contact your Neighbourhood & Tenancy Officer.
