Rough Sleeper Severe weather emergency help in Redditch

Find out information for people who are sleeping rough, and the additional arrangements that will be put in place to protect people when there are ‘severe weather conditions’.

The Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) is a plan to help people who sleep outside when the weather is very cold or very hot.

Cold weather help

The SWEP measures will be activated when the MET office predicts temperatures will be 0 c or lower.

We will:

  • Deploy our outreach team to engage with people sleeping rough, informing them of the available services and encouraging them to make use of these
  • Provide emergency safe night shelter
  • Provide help & support for people to move away from living on the streets

Hot weather help

The SWEP measures will be activated when the MET office issues an Amber heat warning. We will give people:

  • Water
  • Sun Cream
  • Information on places to go to cool down and get help
  • Tips to stay cool

Reporting where people are bedded down through StreetLink is the best way of making sure that people get the support they need. This route helps us support residents of Redditch, still sleeping on the streets into emergency accommodation.
