Homeless Services and Advice

Worried about becoming homeless

If your private landlord has notified you that they want their property back, or your family or friends have asked you to leave, for example, then you are “threatened with homelessness”. This is not an emergency, but it is important that you tell us as soon as possible so we can help prevent you becoming homeless. You can do this by completing a homeless application

Our aim is to help you stay in your home. If it isn't possible for you to stay in your current home, we may be able to help you find somewhere else to live.

The following links can provide you with advice to help prevent you from becoming homeless.

If you think you are homeless today, call 01527 534069 and speak to our homelessness duty team

Monday to Friday: 9 am – 5 pm
Wednesday: 1 pm -5 pm

In these cases, we will respond to you on the same working day and assess your needs, and if necessary, arrange an appointment for you to come to the offices for further assessment.
Outside of these times you can call our out of hours service on 01527 67666.

If you’re eligible for homeless help from the council, the support we can offer will depend on your circumstances, and our statutory duties.

Further advice if you are homeless

In addition to the council, there are other organisations that can offer you homelessness advice based on your circumstances.
