Tree works coming up in Webheath
There are some tree works to be carried out in the coming months in the Webheath area of the Borough.
Essential tree works are coming along Birchfield Road, from the top of Bromsgrove Road to the slip road for Bromsgrove Highway.
The work is to remove Ash trees there that are infected with Ash Dieback disease and the infected trees have already had orange marks placed on them.
Portfolio Holder for Climate Change and Biodiversity, Cllr. Jen Snape, said: “It’s imperative that we look after our local environment and remove any trees with diseases, as if left they can become structurally weaker and therefore become a safety risk to residents.”
Ash Dieback (or Hymenoscyphus fraxineus) is a serious fungal disease that affects Ash trees. It causes leaf loss, branch dieback, and ultimately tree death.
Infected trees can become structurally weakened, posing a public safety risk due to falling branches or even entire trees. While the disease itself does not affect humans or animals, it is important that we take action to prevent potential safety hazards.
The removed Ash trees will not be replanted as the remaining trees and vegetation should be sufficient to allow natural regeneration.
The start date is yet to be confirmed but should be within the coming months.
We understand that any work like this may prompt questions, so if you would like more information about the tree removals or the disease itself, please contact our team at: tree-enquiries@bromsgroveandredditch.gov.uk
