Refurbished Redditch play area now open

A newly refurbished and extended play area is now open in Redditch, as part of Redditch Borough Council’s ongoing ‘Play Area Refurbishment Programme’.

The Banners Lane play area has undergone a full overhaul, with a focus on inclusivity, safety, and play value for children of all ages.

The improvements are part of a long-term council investment to upgrade play facilities across the Borough.

Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Recreation, Cllr. Juliet Barker Smith, said: “The ‘Play Area Refurbishment Programme’ has meant we are continuing to invest in our communities and providing brand-new, high quality play equipment for local children. We monitor wear and tear to play areas, and we replace them when they come to the end of their lifespan which is usually around 25 years, so this was next on the list!”

“It is paramount that these newly refurbed play areas are looked after, as it’s costly to have them repaired, and there should be pride in having nice things in our communities.”

The new play area features a continuous safer surface for improved safety, and a range of inclusive and engaging equipment, including:

  • An accessible roundabout
  • Swings with both cradle and flat seats
  • Play towers at two height levels
  • Interactive fence-mounted play panels

These additions aim to offer something for children of all ages and abilities, while increasing the overall capacity of the site.
