National recognition received for Redditch Market

Redditch Outdoor Market has gained ‘champion’ status following its recent campaign to celebrate its traders and customers alike.

The recognition comes from the National Association of British Markets (NABMA) after a successful ‘Love Your Local Market’ (LYLM) campaign.

Redditch Market was awarded as one of eight accolades of ‘LYLM Champions’ for the 2025 campaign.

Leader of Redditch Borough Council and Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Environmental Services, Cllr Sharon Harvey, said: “The fact we have showcased our market, which really is in its infancy, and it has been recognised nationally, is truly amazing and down to the support from customers and traders.”

"I hope the support so far continues, footfall increases, and that Redditch Market can continue to flourish”

This included putting on community events alongside the market and filling the Council's social media channels with footage from these as well as stories from the traders.

NABMA judges said: “Redditch ran an energetic campaign with a strong youth focus. Their LYLM days included live music and children’s entertainers.

“Trader spotlights showcased regulars, each sharing heartfelt stories and reasons they love market life. The campaign also featured themed events like School Holiday Fun Day with DJ sets and face painting, plus exclusive pitch offers for new traders.”

“The campaign was supported by active social media from Redditch Borough Council and their Instagram channel @redditchmatters — bringing consistent visibility and community connection to every post.”

Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Recreation, Cllr. Juliet Barker Smith, said: “This is great news for Redditch, our market, and for our traders and customers who are key to making this a success. In just three months since we relaunched the market in Redditch, we have received national recognition. With continued support from our community and traders we can make Redditch Market even bigger and better going forward.”

David Preston, Chief Executive of NABMA, said: “This year’s LYLM has once again proven the value of markets at the heart of our communities. Across the country, we’ve seen creative, inclusive and joyful campaigns that celebrate the diversity, resilience, and spirit of our traders and market teams. The 2025 Champions exemplify what makes markets special — bringing together tradition and innovation to support local economies and social connection.

Market days are Thursdays and Saturdays from 9am-4pm, follow our social media channels to find out which traders will be there the night before each trading day.
