Borough Volunteers Integral to Biodiversity
Redditch Borough Council is celebrating the valuable contribution of a group of volunteers to the town’s greenspaces.
The Midweek Conservation Volunteer Group are a dedicated conservation group led by Pete Burton, and they have been supporting habitat improvement work across the borough throughout the winter.
Across the winter this year, the group has been focusing on hedge-laying at Proctors Barn Wildflower Meadows in Arrow Valley Country Park.
This specific technique not only restores the structure and health of hedgerows but also boosts biodiversity by providing vital habitats for birds, insects, and small mammals.
Portfolio Holder for Biodiversity, Cllr Jen Snape, said: “The Midweek Conversation Volunteering Group are integral to the upkeep of Redditch’s greenspaces. Their ongoing contribution plays a vital role in protecting local biodiversity and supporting the long‑term health of Redditch’s parks and natural habitats.
The Midweek Volunteers work with the council all year round, and have done for over 25 years, delivering a wide range of essential conservation tasks such as pruning and upkeep of community orchards, in addition to wildflower maintenance.
