Autumn Arthritic Pain Prevention Sessions Start

The latest round of free ESCAPE-pain rehab sessions for sufferers of arthritic pain are due to start this month across the borough.

ESCAPE-pain is a group rehab programme for people living with joint pain that uses education and coping strategies alongside exercise.

It helps you to understand your condition better, teaches you simple things you can help yourself with, and takes you through a progressive exercise programme so that you can learn how to cope with the pain easier.

Starting on September 24th 2025, the programme details are below, and sessions are completely FREE:

  • 6 Weeks
  • 12 Sessions
  • Wednesdays: 02.30PM - 03:30PM - The Abbey Stadium
  • Fridays: 02:30PM - 03:30PM – The Abbey Stadium
  • There will be a physio from Lift Physiotherapy (giving up their time for free) in attendance every Wednesday session

Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Recreation, Cllr Juliet Barker Smith, said: “Getting older and suffering from aches and pains that persistently make our lives difficult and limit our ability to go about our day-to-day activities, can really put a strain on people’s mental health.”

“I certainly will be looking into these sessions, as I navigate my own investigations into arthritis, and can very much empathise with fellow residents. This kind of provision can actually give a lot of hope.”

“That’s why I am so pleased that we can put on ESCAPE-pain which will hopefully enable sufferers of chronic pain to find enhanced coping strategies that work for them as well as having access to a physio once a week.”

Anyone that wants to take part in these sessions should express their interest via the online form on our website (Escape Pain | Redditchbc.gov.uk) or call 01527 881404.

Thanks go to Rubicon Leisure for their continued support in delivering these sessions.
