Potential puppy pickers are being asked to ‘paws for thought’ before getting a dog in a campaign launched by Worcestershire Regulatory Services.

From today and in the run up to Christmas, daily social media posts will be posted with a list of things for people to consider before they add a pet pooch to their family.

These cover issues including vet bills, time available to spend with pets and most of all doing research about the breed before you buy, to make sure it’s right for you.

WRS Senior Dog Warden Officer Pip Singleton said: “While having a puppy seems like a fabulous idea, and it is, people need to realise that it is a lifetime’s commitment both financially and time consuming.

“While the WRS team are here to offer non-judgemental help, support and advice for people who find themselves struggling with a pet, we want to help before it gets to this stage.

“By asking people to ‘paws for thought’ we are encouraging them to make the right choice for them and their new dog rather than make an impulsive purchase which they will regret.

“And of course, with the number of strays on the rise, we as always would advocate to adopt, don’t shop and staff at kennels will be on hand to help you to make the right choice.”

If you do have a pet and are struggling, please call the team on 01905 822799 who are there to help.
