Matchborough and Winyates District Centres regeneration

You may have heard through the press that the Council has committed to investigate the regeneration of both Matchborough and Winyates District Centres with the hope of forming a partnership with a developer to create improved District Centre facilities in the area.

The project will focus on both District Centres and land in between in partnership with key stakeholders. A comprehensive approach to regeneration incorporating the existing District Centres as well as under used land in the vicinity of the area could create new commercial provision, enhanced local amenities, a number of new homes as well as a greatly improved local environment.

What happens now?

To achieve this vision the Council has to understand the potential regeneration options which meet the needs of District Centre users and the Council alike so has recently engaged industry consultants ‘Arcadis’ to design and appraise the most appropriate redevelopment option for both District Centres. The consultants will consider these options to ensure they meet the needs of our communities, businesses and Council aspirations but also that they are deliverable and commercially viable.

A key part of this process will be ensuring that businesses, residents, schools and visitors all have the opportunity to give their views through a consultation process undertaken by Arcadis - please keep checking this webpage where further consultation information will be posted.

The commission is expected to be completed by late July when a final report will be presented with a preferred redevelopment option for the area. This information will then be presented to elected members in September 2020, who will consider the next steps and make recommendations accordingly.

Be in the know

Throughout the process regular progress updates will be made on this web page, in the local media, on our social media accounts (Facebook here, Twitter here, Instagram here), through ward councillors, and through letters sent directly to the residents and business tenants of the current District Centres.
