Self-build and Custom Build Register

Self-build and Custom Build Homes

Self-build and custom build homes give people more choice over how their home is designed and built.

  • Self-build: You buy a plot of land and manage the design and construction of your home.
  • Custom build: You work with a developer who helps design and build a home to your requirements.

Self-build Register

The Council keeps a register of people interested in building their own home in Redditch.

Joining the register helps us understand local demand and plan for future self-build and custom build housing opportunities.

Please note that being on the register does not guarantee land or planning permission.

Who can join?

You must:

  • Be aged 18 or over
  • Be a British citizen, an EEA national or a Swiss national
  • Be interested in buying a plot of land in Redditch to build your own home

Local Connection

Applicants are placed on one of two parts of the register.

To join Part 1, you must show a local connection to Redditch, for example by:

  • Living in the borough
  • Working in the borough
  • Having close family in the borough
  • Having special circumstances that link you to the area

Applicants who do not meet the local connection criteria are placed on Part 2.

Evidence will be required to support your application.
