Brownfield Land Register

The Brownfield Land Register lists previously developed sites that may be suitable for new housing.

The register helps developers identify potential housing sites and supports the delivery of new homes.

The register has two parts:

  • Part 1 includes brownfield sites that are suitable, available and achievable for housing development.
  • Part 2 includes sites that have been granted Permission in Principle for housing-led development. There are currently no sites in Part 2.

All sites on the register must meet the national definition of previously developed (brownfield) land and be suitable for housing development.

The list of the Brownfield land register can be found in the AMR here

What is Brownfield Land?

Brownfield land, also known as previously developed land, is land that has been used before and contains, or previously contained, permanent buildings or structures.

Examples can include:

  • Former industrial or commercial sites
  • Disused offices or warehouses
  • Previously developed vacant land

Brownfield land does not include:

  • Agricultural or forestry land
  • Private gardens
  • Parks, playing fields or allotments
  • Former landfill or mineral extraction sites that have been restored

Brownfield sites can often be reused for new development, including housing.

If you would like to submit a site to the register that you think could be developed for housing, please send details of the location and availability of the site including an outline plan to the following e-mail address; strategicplanning@bromsgroveandredditch.gov.uk
