Batchley Pool and Brockhill Park

Batchley Pool and Brockhill Park are located in Brockhill & Batchley Ward in the north-west of Redditch. Combined they cover a total of 7.10 hectares. Batchley Pool and Brockhill Park are surrounded by residential housing and, to the north, the open countryside.

Batchley Pool and Brockhill Park are split by Salters Lane. There are multiple points of pedestrian access to the sites, and a Public Right of Way runs from the northern border of the site to an access point on the eastern edge of Brockhill Park.

Brockhill Park

Brockhill Park provides a network of tarmac paths and space for informal recreation. There is a multi-use games area (MUGA) located to the south of the site. Batchley Brook flows through Brockhill Park in a southerly direction. It flows through mixed woodland, open grassed area, thick vegetation and between two pools, where fishing is prohibited. This area provides valuable habitats for wildlife to thrive. The trees, hedges and secluded areas provide nesting site for many birds and swans regularly nest on the ponds.

Batchley Brook

Batchley Brook is then culverted beneath Salters Lane and then continues as an open brook course flowing through the northern end of the Batchley Pool site. It is then culverted beneath the play area. The fenced play area provides equipment suitable for toddler and junior play.

The brook later re-emerges to join the first of two circular pools. The first has been planted with trees and creates a wet woodland area. The brook flows under the arched bridge into a further circular pool and then cascades into the large fishing pool.

The large fishing pool is partially fenced and has a number of wooden fishing platforms around its perimeter. There is an abundance of wildlife in and around the pond including waterfowl. The pond is shallow, rarely exceeding 1.2m in depth.
