Take a Stand Against Anti-Social Behaviour

Next week is Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Awareness Week (29 June – 5 July) and Redditch Borough Council are encouraging residents to take a stand against the negative effects of ASB.

ASB is defined as 'behaviour by a person which causes, or is likely to cause, harassment, alarm or distress to persons not of the same household as the person.

The Council’s Community Safety Team, part of the North Worcestershire Community Safety Partnership, work year-round with their partners to highlight the impacts that ASB has, support victims to report incidents, and raise awareness on what to do if you have experienced ASB.

Leader of the Council, Cllr. Matt Dormer, said: “Everyone deserves to feel safe in their community. Anti-social behaviour can have a real impact on people's daily lives, which is why we are committed to supporting residents and working with our partners to tackle issues quickly and effectively. I would encourage anyone affected by anti-social behaviour to report it so we can take action and help make our communities safer for everyone.”

Early intervention is key, and it is very important to report ASB as soon as possible to the relevant agencies, such as the police, local authority, housing association, or Worcestershire Regulatory Services.

As part of the work to strengthen community safety, as well as tackle environmental issues, and provide a visible, approachable presence across the Borough, Redditch Borough Council were pleased to introduce the Neighbourhood Warden scheme recently. The wardens are focused on addressing ASB, gathering local intelligence, and supporting residents with the issues that matter most to them.

Many don’t know what will happen once they report ASB and this can be a barrier to coming forward. Officers and partners will use the week to highlight support available to victims and the actions taken to address persistent issues.

The North Worcestershire Community Safety Partnership brings together partners from public, private, community, and voluntary sectors to seek solutions to reducing crime to “keep North Worcestershire a safe place to live, work, and visit.”

The week focuses on prevention, encouraging positive behaviour, and early intervention to stop issues escalating. Residents are encouraged to come forward if they experience or witness ASB, helping agencies take effective action.
