RoadPeace Doves Landing in Redditch

Redditch Borough Council have partnered with RoadPeace and Rubicon Leisure to bring the ‘Peace in the Park’ Doves campaign to Redditch.

RoadPeace is the national charity for road crash victims, the campaign is supported by a partnership between the RoadPeace West Midlands and West Mercia Groups, Birmingham Youth Justice Service, CFG, Birmingham Cathedral, and St. Martin in the Bull Ring.

The dove represents peace, love, and hope.

From the 17th of May there will be an installation of doves outside Arrow Valley Visitor Centre – The Boathouse Café at Arrow Valley Country Park. We invite all our residents to spend time to visit and reflect on the lives remembered on the doves.

Interim Leader for Redditch Borough Council, Cllr. Sharon Harvey, said: “I am really honoured that the RoadPeace Doves are being installed in Arrow Valley Country Park to remember those who have had their lives taken in road traffic collisions. There will be many in our communities who have been affected by these tragedies. To honour the lives lost or irreversibly changed through the ‘Peace in the Park’ campaign is a poignant opportunity to promote conversation about what support is available to our residents.”

The doves feature pictures of those killed in road traffic collisions. They were made by the Birmingham Youth Justice Service with young people who have been involved in driving crime as part of their reparation work, family members bereaved through road crashes, and colleagues of project partner CFG.

On the 17th, the RoadPeace team will be at the Boathouse Café between 11am and 2pm – along with the families of some of those remembered on the doves.

There will be information sessions held at 11am and 2pm, along with the chance to hear the stories from the families in attendance.

Justice and Outreach Manager for RoadPeace, Lucy Harrison, said: “The RoadPeace Doves highlight the unacceptable toll of road death, and remind everyone that victims are more than statistics.  For our West Midlands and West Mercia Groups, it is very special to see the doves travelling to different locations – spreading the message that road crime is real crime right across the region.  Redditch is my home town, so it is especially poignant for me – but also for our group members whose loved ones were killed on roads in Worcestershire.  We are extremely grateful to CFG Law, Redditch Borough Council and Rubicon Leisure for their work in enabling this to happen.”

The Doves will be in the park until the 27th May 2025.
