If you go down to Redditch Library this month you’re sure of a cultural surprise!

For the venue is hosting a Community Winter Picnic – a cultural exchange through food, dance and story-telling.

The aim is to bring together different communities in one place to enjoy activities from face-painting to craft and entertainment.

Community Cohesion Officer Basia Ligas, said: “We held a couple of similar events across the County which have been a great success.

“People of all ages have had so much fun getting to know others from neighbouring communities who they may never get to meet as part of their day to day life.”

As well as trying food from around the world, participants are invited to ‘bring and share’ a picnic for everyone to tuck into.

Borough Councillor Mike Rouse, whose portfolio covers Culture and Recreation, said: “Redditch boasts a host of diverse communities of which we are very proud, but unfortunately due to everyday demands, there is little time for different cultures to meet and find out about each other.

“As well as promising to be a great day out, it offers the chance for people of all ages to cross paths with representatives from different communities who they wouldn’t usually see as part of their day-to-day life.”

The free event is being hosted by Redditch Borough Council and with partners including the County Council’s Library Service, the European Connections Forum and Talk to Me: Redditch. Redditch Community Forum as well as number of community organisations active in the area are also involved.

It runs from 11am until 3pm on Saturday February 22 at Redditch Library, Market Place. You can sample food from around the world between 12 and 2pm.
