A festival of music, annually held by Redditch Borough Council has been cancelled as officers continue to review its schedule of events in light of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Morton Stanley Festival is held each Summer and this year was set to be bigger and better than ever as the Council teamed up with Royal Enfield.

Plans included moving the festival to Arrow Valley Country Park, to make it more accessible and to create a festival of music and motorcycles which would also attract an audience from across Europe.

The difficult decision to cancel the event along with other smaller events has been made in line with Government legislation and guidelines, details can be found on the website.

Borough Councillor and Executive Member for Leisure, Mike Rouse, said: “We're still excited about this event which we plan to hold next year instead, which is quite fitting as Royal Enfield celebrates it 125th anniversary.

“Officers have been constantly reviewing the schedule of council events in accordance with Government advice and I wholly support the decisions they are making in the best interests of our residents, especially as the event was going to have Europe-wide appeal.

“And of course, just because we can’t get together in person, doesn’t mean we can’t meet up virtually and we are looking at options around this.

“Our team will keep you updated on any other changes to our programme, including the Bonfire celebrations.”
