The Palace Drum Clinic (PDC) are providing an opportunity for a young person to gain some experience in the events industry.

Young people aged 18-25 years are invited to apply for the PDC’s first Young Mentor Programme where they will play a key role in the planning and delivery of all the events in the PDC 2019/20 programme.

Interested young people can apply to take on the role by sending a letter explaining why they would like to be part of the Young Mentor Programme before 30th November 2019. Successful applicants will be invited to attend an informal interview to see if they would be right for the programme.

The successful applicant will help organise the monthly Palace Drum Clinics, assist with the 3 day PDC Camp taking place in February and two ‘Palace Drum Clinic Goes Large’ events taking place in July and September. This will include preparation before the events, during the events with set ups and break down, interacting on social media and engaging with the public and artists.

PDC are looking for a young person with a good work ethic, good people skills, the ability to follow instructions, good understanding and ability to use social media, the ability to use their initiative and the ability to travel to event locations independently. Knowledge of drums/gear is useful but not essential. They must be available for all of the PDC events to be eligible to apply.

Matt Green, founder of The Palace Drum Clinic, said: “We’d love to attract a creative, resourceful and enthusiastic individual with an interest in drumming or music to work with us to deliver our expanding programme of events. They’ll get the chance to see how events are put together, work with a variety of people from famous drummers to children and they’ll get a small bursary. It’s the perfect opportunity for a young person who would like to go into event management for a career and needs a bit of extra experience.”

A financial bursary will be awarded to the Young Mentor to cover their travel and expenses.

The Palace Drum Clinic has close ties with the National Drum Fair and run monthly workshop sessions at the Palace Theatre with guest drummers. Earlier this year they also held the first PDC Young Drummer of the Year competition.

The Palace Drum Clinic have been awarded a grant from Arts Council England to support the delivery of their events programme over the next year.
