Mayor of Redditch Cllr Roger Bennett helped to fly the flag at Redditch Town Hall on Monday (June 24) in the run up to Armed Forces Day.

A short speech was read and the special commemorative flag will now fly all week as part of a national initiative raising awareness of the role of the Armed Forces, leading up to Armed Forces day on Saturday (June 29).

Members of the Royal British Legion joined the Mayor during the ceremony, which took place at 10am sharp.

Cllr Bennett said: “Once again we pay our respects to the people of Redditch past and present who have served in our armed forces. This is an issue that will always be close to my heart, as my son is an ex-soldier having served 22 years, and I am proud to raise the flag in honour of the work they all do to keep us safe.”
