Redditch Borough Council has struck a heavenly deal which will save time and money for tenants.

The Council’s Housing Team is working in partnership with Energy Angels, to assist in clearing debts on meters on empty properties.

This means the properties can be turned around quicker and become a home to waiting families.

Once the new tenants have moved in the Energy Angels Team talk them through getting the best energy provider for their needs.

The scheme went live yesterday.

The Council’s portfolio-holder for housing, Cllr Craig Warhurst, said: “Previously we have spent time and money chasing energy debts left by previous tenants which means a slower turnaround on empty properties.

“Energy Angels are experts in this field and work with tenants, past and future, to ensure the best way forward for them.

“We are committed to providing affordable homes for our residents and this exciting partnership will help us to achieve this.”

Energy Angels Managing Director Lewis Taylor, who founded the Wolverhampton-based company 12 years ago, said: “Tackling homelessness and fuel poverty are the key drivers behind Energy Angels.

“With housing demand constantly outstripping supply, its vital to get voids turned around and available for new tenants as quickly as possible.

“This not only protects housing providers but provides much needed homes for families.”
