Residents informed of local vegetation management works

Residents living in part of Redditch are being informed about planned vegetation management works to improve the long-term condition and maintenance of a planted boundary.

Redditch Borough Council's Tree Team has written to residents near Barnwood Close and Rickyard Lane ahead of the works to explain why they are needed and what they will involve.

This autumn an overgrown planted barrier between the two roads will be brought back into a manageable condition, making it easier to maintain as a hedge while allowing established trees to thrive and be inspected and cared for more effectively.

The work will retain and protect the higher-quality trees within the planting area, while reducing shrubs, bushes, self-seeded growth, and poorer-quality trees to around two metres in height. Some individual trees will also be removed where necessary.

Redditch Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment and Local Services, Councillor Brandon Clayton, said: "This planned work is part of a proactive approach to managing what we call a 'barrier bed' as seen across the borough. They are an important part of what makes Redditch such a green place to live.

"It will improve the long-term condition and manageability of the area while ensuring the best-quality trees are retained and given the space they need to thrive.

"We understand the changes may look significant immediately after the work has taken place, but the aim is always to create healthier, more sustainable and easier-to-maintain features for local residents."
