Staff at Redditch Crematorium are celebrating a ‘perfect’ inspection rating.

The Bordesley facility has achieved the highest possible gold rating from the Institute for Cemetery & Crematorium Management (ICCM) for a third consecutive year, and even went one step better by scoring every available point in an inspection by the Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities (FBCA).

Redditch Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services, Cllr Brandon Clayton, said: “The excellent services provided by our team at Redditch Crematorium have been recognised once again. We’re delighted and proud to provide a first-rate service that people in Redditch and beyond can depend on.”

The five-yearly FBCA inspection is an independent check of the crematorium’s performance against statutory, regulatory, and industry code of practice standards, and provides a detailed report of potential improvements and recommendations.

Following the one-day inspection in April the crematorium inspector remarked on an ‘excellent level of service provision’ in Redditch and that they ‘did not feel it necessary to make any recommendations.’

Out of 460 possible points across 80 areas of interest from customer service to on-site facilities, the crematorium scored 456 – with the remaining four points impossible to win at the Redditch facility for technical reasons.

Bereavement Services Manager Mike Birkinshaw added: “To achieve what is in real terms a perfect score is a testament to the hard work of all the staff who contribute to the running of the crematorium. Especially after their efforts through some genuinely difficult times during the pandemic, I’m delighted the team has been recognised for a job well done.”
