Players of Redditch Community Lottery (RCL) can support their favourite VCS groups and be in with an extra chance of winning £1000 in John Lewis vouchers thanks to a national campaign.

Residents can sign up and support their local community today and be in with the chance of winning weekly cash prizes up to the £25,000 jackpot, as well as a special autumn prize of £1000 John Lewis vouchers, if they sign up and purchase a ticket before 30th October.

RCL is a fun way to help local good causes without giving up precious time. Tickets are £1 in the weekly draw where players can choose exactly which local group they would like their money to go to.

Each month, 50% of the cost of the ticket goes directly into the bank account of the good cause chosen by the player. A further 10% goes to a central fund, which is used to further support local good causes in the borough, 20% goes into the prize pot and 20% goes to cover the administration costs for running the lottery.

Unlike larger lotteries, 60% of your ticket purchase comes back into the local community and the odds of winning a prize are much better at just 50:1.

Cllr Matt Dormer, Leader of Redditch Borough Council, said: “It really is a win-win, even if you don’t win a prize, because you are making a real difference to your community just by buying a ticket. The national lottery is great, and they do some fantastic things with funds raised, but by playing the local lottery you can be sure that your money is going to a local group, charity, or organisation that you choose. If your group isn’t on there, why not encourage them to sign up for free?”

Redditch Partnership Manager, Helen Broughton, said: “One of the main questions we get asked is ‘why wouldn’t I just donate directly instead?’ It’s a great question but the idea behind playing the local lottery is that usually it’s not just a one-off payment. Buying tickets provides ongoing and consistent help, support, and funds for your local organisations but in a way that is affordable for the player. The weekly prizes, bolt-on prizes and the better odds are all just a bonus to giving back to the community.”

Since its launch, the community lottery has raised more than £14,153 for local charities and so far, more than 30 local groups have signed up to be a part of it.

The draw for the £1000 in vouchers is on 30th October and the results will be announced at 8pm on the lottery website.
