Redditch Borough Council have announced this years’ festive bin changes – with jingle bells!

Residents who would be due a bin collection over the Christmas and New Year bank holidays are being advised to double check when to put their bins out as there are changes to collections which fall on a Friday.

Residents whose usual collection day is a Friday are being asked to put their bins out on the following Monday during the festive season. All other collection days will be unaffected and should be put out as normal.

To make sure people are aware the council have created a special Christmas video from their crews and are urging people to share the news with their friends, family and neighbours – especially given the current issues and restrictions posed by the pandemic and to avoid any missed collections.

The Christmas period timetable is as follows:

Normal Collection DayRevised Collection Day

Friday 25 December

Monday 28 December

Friday 1 January

Monday 4 January

There are no other planned changes.

Cllr Brandon Clayton, Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services, said: “After such an unusual year our crews are taking some well-deserved time off over the bank holidays to enjoy Christmas with their families. Of course, this means there are a few changes to bin collections, as there usually are, but we hope that this will not cause too much disruption to residents. Just remember that unless you have a Friday collection, nothing is changing so put your bin out as normal. If you’re a Friday collection put it out on the following Monday.

“I would like to wish all of our residents a very Merry Christmas on behalf of our crews and our Environmental Services Team.”

Residents are reminded to put their bin out by 7am on their day of collection as on occasion it is necessary for the crew to change their route. This may mean they come to you earlier or later than normal.

If over the next few weeks, we experience snow or ice that means our crews cannot get to residents on their collection day, residents are reminded that they should, where possible, leave their bin out and we will return to collect it as soon as we can and it is safe to do so. If that happens regular advice will be issued on our website and social media as usual.

Residents with garden waste collections are also reminded that the service will take a two week break (w/c 21 and 28 December) before restarting in the New Year (w/c 4 January).
