Housing allocations policy

The housing allocations policy ensures that the Council assist those with the greatest housing need and make the best use of the limited supply of affordable housing within the Borough.

The demand for affordable housing locally is far greater than the number of homes available. We therefore need to prioritise people based on their housing need.

The housing allocations policy is supported by a housing options approach giving applicants realistic advice on their chances of being housed by us and promoting other housing options, such as low cost home ownership and private sector renting where appropriate. This will ensure that applicants are clear from the outset about their chances of being housed in the district.

For more information on who is eligible and who qualifies to be included on the housing register, how applications are prioritised and how homes are allocated, please read the allocations policy within this page
