Organise a street party or fête (for up to 99 people)
Street parties and fêtes are a traditional part of British life and they are a great way for us to get to know our neighbours and build strong communities.
The top tip for arranging an event is to start early! Try to make plans a couple of months in advance, and get in touch with our relevant departments as early as possible - we’ll be happy to help.
The definition of a street party or fête:
- It’s for residents/neighbours only
- It’s only advertised to residents/neighbours
- No licence is normally necessary if music is incidental and no alcohol is sold
- It’s self-organised
- Only residential roads are closed
- A minimum £5 million public liability insurance is required
Choosing a venue
A street party is the obvious choice. You can apply to use our land using the form on this page.
Invite all the neighbours, set up some tables and string up some bunting! However, if you don't want to take a risk with the weather – this is England after all! – you may want to consider holding your event in a community hall, local pub, or even in your own home.
