Planning enforcement

If anyone carries out development without the required planning permission, or breaks conditions that we have put on a planning permission, a breach of planning law has occurred and we may take enforcement action.

If you think a breach of planning has occurred you can report your concerns to us here.

Enforcing planning law can bring unauthorised activity into compliance with planning rules and remedy any undesirable effects caused by unauthorised development.

Enforcement usually takes place through negotiation and persuasion, for example arranging remedial works that put the breach of planning right or submitting an application for planning permission.

However in some and serious cases formal enforcement action may be required, including through the courts which can grant injunctions that include criminal penalties for anyone that fails to comply.
