Staying safe around water was the message at a summer holiday awareness event at Redditch’s biggest park and lake last week.

About 100 people attended the water safety awareness evening by Arrow Valley Lake in Arrow Valley Country Park on Thursday (July 27).

Redditch United Football Club, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, West Mercia Police, the Royal Lifesaving Society Redditch and Redditch Borough Council joined forces to show the importance of water safety, with CPR and defibrillation demonstrations to show what to do in an emergency.

Cllr Pat Witherspoon, Redditch Borough Council’s portfolio holder for leisure, said: “Events like this are all part of the commitment the council has made to support particularly younger people to understand how to stay water safe.

“We’re pleased to host all the partners to come together and remind everybody about water safety, especially during the summer holidays.”
