Palace youth theatre

The Palace Youth Theatre will be opening their doors to new members next week as they run their first ever “PYTry” sessions.

PYTry will run on 24thJanuary and aims to provide the opportunity for interested young people to attend and try out a Youth Theatre session for free and with no obligation to sign up if it turns out it’s not for them.

There will be different time slots for prospective members to attend depending on their age; 5 – 8 years will run from 4-5pm, 5-6.30pm will be for 8-12 years, 6:30-8pm for 12-16 years and 8-9:30pm for 16-18 years.

Unlike previous open evenings unfortunately parents will be unable to stay during these sessions for safeguarding purposes.

Youth theatre sessions for young people, which are run in groups according to the above age and requirements, take place every Tuesday during school term time.

Youth Theatre and Arts Officer, Liz Tabberer, said: “The future of local theatre belongs to our children and young people and we are very passionate about encouraging more people to get involved. The theatre is a great way to develop new skills, self-esteem and boost confidence from an early age, so sign up today to take part in a free session and see what fun we get up to at PYT.”

The sessions offer something for everyone and include performance techniques, improvisation, sets and costumes, script work, movement pieces, vocal performance and lots more. PYT’s next show will be Beauty and the Beast and will be performed from 13th – 15th July.

Previously, PYT have put on shows and workshops including, His Dark Materials, The Jungle Book, The Wizard of Oz, Alloy Jungle in conjunction with CircusMASH, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Odyssey 2.

New members will be able to enrol straight into the youth theatre on the night if they wish, at the theatre’s box office.
