George Dragon Punch And Judy

Children visiting Forge Mill can get their hands on the “Bordesley Treasure” as the museum celebrates the Festival of Archaeology.

On Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th July, visitors can enjoy a medieval themed event whilst taking part in a ‘Big Dig’ in the museum’s sandpit where they can uncover pieces of Bordesley Abbey or if they are lucky the “Bordesley Abbey Treasure”.

As part of the celebrations the museum will be joined by medieval re-enactment group Company Ecorcheur who will portray medieval life in a Knight’s encampment and offer weaponry demonstrations.

There will also be the opportunity to listen to medieval music and have a go at playing musical instruments.

Visitors will be able to make a Bordesley tile as well as take the opportunity to unlock the mysteries of Bordesley Abbey using the museum’s new interactive app, bringing the history of the ruins to life.

On Sunday 16 July only children will be entertained by a St George and the Dragon puppet show. There will also be a tour of Bordesley Abbey on both days at 12pm provided by the museum’s expert guides.

Debbie Lakeman, Education Officer for the Museum, said: “We’re really looking forward to our medieval weekend. As well as being great fun, it will be educational too and hopefully we can inspire some budding archaeologists of the future!”

The cost of entry is £2.00 for adults and children go free. The events will run from 11am until 4pm on both days. All details can be found on the museum’s website.
