Old Lady

Older Redditch residents, their families and carers are invited to attend a special event next week at the Town Hall to help them understand the services available to them.

The annual event, which is being hosted by Redditch Borough Council and organised by the Older People’s Forum, Redditch Borough Council’s Energy Support Officer and Health Improvement colleagues, will take place next Thursday 9th March between 10am and 12pm.

The annual Older People’s Services Event is hugely popular with local residents and in previous years has seen over 100 people in attendance. This year, the theme of the event will be ‘Keep Warm and Save Money’ and is combined with the finale of the Warmer Winter series of events which have been held across the winter period.

There will be around 30 organisations attending with services covered including health advice and support, helping to maintain independence, support for living with dementia, carers and for older people with pets, and social activities and volunteering including social groups, the Repair Café, orchard–planting, ‘gleaning’ and Age UK’s Men (and Women!) in Sheds.

There will also be information on smart meters, switching energy suppliers, accessing grant funding for heating systems as well as the opportunity to sign up for Home Fire Safety checks and Age UK energy checks. Electric blanket testing will also be available from Age UK but will need to be booked in advance to avoid disappointment.

There will be free refreshments for all visitors and a raffle (50p) drawn at 11.45am.

Cllr Bill Hartnett, leader of the council, said: “I think it is wonderful that our residents can attend this ever popular event again this year. Its purpose is not only to inform them of services available – many of which they might have been unaware of - but also celebrates our more mature residents and demonstrates that you can still have fun and live life to the full no matter how old you are.”

To book an electric blanket test please call Age UK on 01527 584653 in advance of the day.

For more information about the event, please telephone Pat and John on 01527 65436 or Lorna on 01527 522030.
