Temporary Footpath and Road Closures

Applying to temporarily close a road or path

We strongly advise that you:

  1. Plan to apply for the closure early in your event planning process, as we cannot guarantee we will approve it
  2. Tell the police about your plans before you come to us. As we will consult them on your application, if you speak to them first you can make any necessary changes to reduce the risk that they will object to your plans later
  3. Undertake adequate risk assessments
  4. Take out suitable public liability cover.

These are Temporary Road Closures, i.e. for Events / Processions which are authorised under the Town Police Clauses Act 1847, Section 21.
