Standards
Purpose of committee
The Standards Committee currently comprises nine Borough Councillors. There is a Parish Council representative for Parish Council related matters and an Independent Person who plays a distinct role in supporting the maintenance of standards of conduct. The Committee meets approximately four times a year.
The role of the Standards Committee includes the promotion and maintenance of high standards of conduct by Members and co-opted Members and to advise, train or arrange to train Members and co-opted Members on matters relating to their relevant Code of Conduct.
The Committee is delegated with the task of carrying out the assessment and investigation of local complaints.
Members of the public are welcome to attend meetings of the Standards Committee, although the initial assessment of complaints takes place in private meetings from which the public are excluded.
