Payments for Work

You may have enough money to pay for any work done yourself. If this is the case the Care and Repair will provide assistance, if requested, to ensure that you get good quality building work. 

If your finances are limited, we can help with information on:

• Grants – the Council gives grants to private homeowners for certain things. Other organisations such as charities also provide assistance for people in financial difficulty. We will discuss this with you when we visit.
•  Loans, mortgages, Equity / capital release – depending on your circumstances it may be beneficial to you to raise cash based upon the value of your home. 
• If you decide to go through with the building work process with the help of a Grant, which we will process for you, we do charge a fee as set out in the Summary of Grant Conditions.  For most works this is calculated as a percentage of the cost of the works and can be included as a cost within a grant or loan. We will fully explain all the facts and figures before you decide to use this service.

Cost of Plans

• In addition, where plans have had to be produced, you will be responsible for the cost of them if you decide not to go ahead with the scheme. The cost of plans and the fees for the Care and Repair Agency’s services are eligible expenses and may be taken into account in assessing the grant.

Please be aware that gaining funding can be a lengthy process and the Care and Repair Agency has no control over this.

The advice service that Care and Repair offers is free.
However, if you decide to go through with the building work process we do charge a fee. For most works this is calculated as a percentage of the cost of the works and can be included as a cost within a grant or loan.

You will be asked to sign an agreement with us confirming the service we will offer you and the fees we will charge.
